My truck had a misfire in cylinder 2. I was told 129.95 to look at it. The report stated the tech could not locate the issue. Wanted an extra $360 to perform more diagnostic. I wanted a 2nd opinion. The tech brought my truck around and I asked him if he replaced the plugs and the coil when switching the from Cylinder 2 to cylinder 1. He said "Ya know, I should have marked the wires when I swapped them cause it got a little confused." I asked to quote changing only 1 coil and plug and was informed $411.00 I went for a second opinion at a different mechanic and they swapped all 6 coils and plugs for 307.65 out the door. My truck runs beautifully. Although the office staff was helpful and accommodating at Johnsons , I am left wanting of better technical skills from my mechanic. $129.95 to learn a lesson.
I do appreciate the information. I was totally forthright in my statements to you. I said when I removed the coils for testing I saw nothing electrically wrong with the coils themselves. When I had the coils out, I miss manage the positions and I wasn’t sure what was pretty confident that I put them in opposite holes to see if the misfire would move. It did not move and so I wondered if I put the same coil back in the same hole. So I told you this may have happened and it sounds like it did so we needed to pull the intake back off to swap the coils again or replace it one or the other you wanted a quote I got a quote together for a coil and if they replaced all six coils for $307 they probably bought the cheapest coils from AutoZone that you can get and I do not install those coils due to failure rate
